Do you know Rob Writes Words? ///

Rob Dalton

Down to earth copy straight from the North

Your word search is over. However you’ve stumbled across me, if you’re looking for someone to treat your copy with proper care and attention, then you’re in luck.

I’ve spent the best part of a decade making copy my business, working for agencies both global and local to make sure their words are wording correctly.

And what about the non-word stuff?

Well, being born and raised in Yorkshire, I’d say I’m pretty practical and down-to-earth. That’s definitely helped to shape how I approach copy, but I’m also a fairly goofy nerd with a love of bad puns and dad jokes.

You can usually find me blocking views at gigs around Leeds (sorry!), catching films at Hyde Park Picture House or grabbing a coffee from one of the many brilliant coffeeshops across the city (Kapow, anyone?).

  • “I love working with Rob - nothing is too much trouble and he really feels part of the team. Always quick to understand a brief and the feedback from clients is always excellent. If you’re after a super talented, friendly Northern chap that gets the job done, Rob’s your guy!”

Jenni Stockton // Freelance Senior Event Manager

  • “Rob’s got a fantastic arsenal of tools and has always delivered outstanding work - from descriptive to conceptual copy for us. His proactive nature pushes projects forward, keep the momentum going while delivering top quality stuff.”

Cole Procter // Senior Account Director @ Ride Shotgun

  • “I’ve worked with Rob for many years now and he’s always flexible with the varied requests and demands put his way! He is very much a valued member of our freelance support network, bringing his talent, creativity and insights to the table and adding value to every proposal and project.”

Sonia Mehta-Hosie // Creative Ops Lead @ First Event

  • “Having had the pleasure to work with Rob professionally for several years, I can confidently say he is an extraordinarily talented copywriter, storyteller and communicator - elevating even the most mundane copy into something that cuts through for any audience and consistently connects.”

James Tweddle // Communications Lead @ CTL Communications

Want to know a little more?

    • I’ve worked in-house for ASDA crafting product copy, covering anything from a Unicorn Dreams Reed Diffuser to Sliced Ham (not quite as good as sliced bread).

    • I jumped over to digital content at twentysix (now 26) where I wrote up web copy and blog posts for all sorts of brands.

    • I spent close to two years with ICF Next, turning my hand at all sorts of internal comms work. Scriptwriting, game development, tone of voice guides, event strategy - you name it, we did it.

    • I’ve now been freelance for around two years, supporting all sort of agencies across the North like Ride Shotgun, First Event and scarlettabbott with whatever projects need an extra pair of steady hands (even better for holding a pen with).

  • Yes and no.

I’m much happier getting different projects across all manner of industries. Picking up animation scripts for a FinTech startup in the morning and proofreading an event proposal for a food delivery company keeps me on my toes. Variety is the spice of life, after all.

But I do still have a niche.

It might sound cheesy, but I specialise in making working with a freelance copywriter a breeze.

    Proactive communication? On it.
Asking the difficult questions? Got to be done.
Being a bit of a goofball on calls? I can’t help it.

  • I charge £400 a day (covering an 8-hour day) and £50 an hour. Who doesn’t love transparency?

That said, I’m always up to discuss things for specific projects or if you’d prefer to explore a retainer.

  • Take all of these with a subjective pinch of salt, but they’ll give you more of a flavour about me:
