A full five-year plan can look a little overwhelming on paper. How about broadcasting it instead?

The brief

We needed to turn HSBC Technology’s five-year vision into something more manageable for a virtual broadcast. It needed to feel different to the other digital content through the pandemic and would keep eyes glued to screens throughout.

The approach

Halfway through the pandemic, people were sick of Teams calls (and some still are), so we wanted to switch things up. Why not spin it as a news broadcast, complete with forecast, on-location reporting and hard-hitting headlines?

Given the scope of the business update, we started penning down what elements could align to different segments and worked up a framework to present back. We got the green light and set to scripting out all the details.

The future of data became the weather report, making use of global graphics and forecasting its importance. We threw over to colleagues over in India to give us on-location reporting on cybersecurity. And we rounded things out with a Q&A panel featuring experts dialing in from all over the world.

With our XR stage in London acting as the hub for all this content, we made some rapid amends through rehearsals and then - showtime.

The outcome

HSBC Global Technology’s highest level of global engagement, with everyone tuned in either watching live or on demand.

Post-event surveys came back with positive feedback surrounding overall satisfaction and understanding of what comes next - meaning that five-year vision can take its first step to becoming a reality.
