The brief

Back in 2023, simplybetter brought me onboard as a temporary in-house copywriter before hiring someone permanent. Part of that posting came with the opportunity to bring an outside set of eyes onto their brand, which felt disconnected from the business they had become.

So, that’s how I was tasked with reviewing their brand story and tackling a refresh of their website in its entirety.

The approach

We start at the very beginning (I’ve heard it’s a very good place to start) with the brand story - the core truth at the heart of simplybetter. I sat down with the managing director and head of strategy to chat about their view of the business, what set them apart and how they feel things had moved forward.

After some rigorous note-taking, I then spun out some prototypes with varying stylistic approaches as a bit of a litmus test. This kept all parties involved in refining down the content until we arrived at a brand story that rang true with the wider business, along with a rough tone of voice guide driven by the refining process.

From there, the name of the game became scaling. I mapped out a possible site structure, including the purpose of each element and internal linking, and got to work drafting copy for each of these new site pages.

With myself as the lead and the head of strategy providing additional detail for me to flow in, we crafted all the essential content well within the development timeframe set. Then, working closely with the web development agency, we finessed the final build into something that felt simply better than what had come before.

The outcome

A refreshed brand that the whole business could be proud of and believe in. The new website launched later in the year with a steady stream of traffic stemming from a stronger online presence. And, most of all, a great big thank you from the team!
